Training

Winter Training commences in mid-October and runs through till mid-April, as this is when local waters do not usually permit safe diving regularly due to greatly reduced visibility. This gives us the chance to brush up on our skills and train newer, lesser experienced members.

The Club meets every Monday evening, 7:15 pm for 7:30 pm at the Methodist Church Hall in Montrose.

Lectures, slide shows, discussion groups or dry training usually take place there and last for around an hour before then moving along to Montrose Swimming Pool for a wet training session.

At the wet training session, members are taught the practical skill lessons that are required to gain their target level. Members not requiring training are encouraged to come along either for lane swimming or to assist with the lesser experienced members.

We welcome BSAC and PADI divers wishing to begin or further their training with BSAC.

After an hour theory, and an hour doing hundreds of lengths in the pool carrying one of the clubs’ outboards above their heads, most divers attend an apres-pool training session in the comfort of one of the local taverns. Here members tend to waffle on at great lengths about various subjects – none of them usually about anything remotely related to diving.
